Biweekly vs semimonthly pay calculator
Same salary, different rhythm. See how big each check is, what a typical month looks like, and why biweekly feels smaller but gives you two extra checks.
The difference in one sentence
Biweekly means every other week (26 checks, always on the same weekday). Semimonthly means twice a month on set dates such as the 15th and the last day (24 checks, the weekday changes). Over a year you are paid the same salary either way; the only difference is how it's sliced.

Gross pay before taxes and deductions (salary ÷ 26, ÷ 24, ÷ 12). The last column is two biweekly checks, which is what most months look like.
Which is easier to budget?
Semimonthly lines up with monthly bills, so each check can cover the same bills every month. Biweekly checks are about 8% smaller, but two months a year bring a third check. If you're biweekly, the trick is to plan on two checks a month and treat the extra two as a bonus. Compare both in detail in biweekly vs semimonthly pay.

Frequently asked questions
Is biweekly or semimonthly better for employees?
Neither pays more over a year. Biweekly gives two extra checks that are great for savings; semimonthly makes monthly bills simpler.
Why is my biweekly check smaller?
Your salary is divided by 26 instead of 24, so each check is about 7.7% smaller.
Is the take-home percent accurate?
It is a rough estimate you control. Use your pay stub: net pay ÷ gross pay.
